10th November 2024 4:00pm
Lastingham Church
with Geoffrey Coffin (organ)
A performance of two beautiful Requiems to mark Remembrance Day.
Eleanor Daley’s Requiem is written in a deceptively simple style and includes the poetry of Carolyn Smart. The setting in the fourth movement of the poem Do not Stand at my Grave and Weep is a deeply touching consolation on the loss of a loved one. The Fauré Requiem is arguably his most famous and best-loved work in seven beautiful movements with the treble solo in the Pie Jesu being a highlight for many.
There will be a retiring collection in support of the Royal British Legion.
